The attractiveness of Brazil to foreign investors is one of the subjects of economics pages of French newspapers published on Thursday. The Figaro highlights research that put St. Paul as the fourth most attractive capital of the world, while Les Echos said the takeover of Brazilian manufacturer SDMO Maquigeral by the French group.
A survey by the Association Paris-Ile de France, published in Le Figaro says that the capital of the Brazilian economy has advanced eight points in just two years, leaving the French capital back in the ranking of attractiveness for foreign investment. The main conclusion is that emerging countries are outpacing the traditional capitals of the world: in the list, London stands out in the first place, with 389 foreign investments in 2011, followed by Shanghai, with 309, Hong Kong, with 239, St. Paul, who attracted 195 investment, ahead of New York and Paris, in the fifth and sixth positions respectively.
The Figaro reported that, "depending on your point of view with which one looks", the results may mean "the glass is half full or half empty." On the one hand, Paris remains attractive, on the other we must be alert to changes in markets and stop losing positions. The paper highlights the performance of Sao Paulo, which has progressed 160% since 2009. The emerging capital now account for 25% of the investments that were previously allocated to the City of Lights.
An example of Brazil's performance is shown today by the business daily Les Echos, which includes the purchase details of the manufacturer of electrical components Maquigeral SDMO by the French group, announced yesterday. The deal will mean the gateway to the intensification of activities of the French in South America, says Les Echos. The Maquigeral, located in Sao Paulo, is the third leading company of its kind in the country, generates an annual revenue of 41 million euros and employs 205 staff. With these figures, the Brazilian company will take the lead on foreign investments by SDMO, a group based in Brest, in the French region of Brittany.
